June 27, 2009 at 2:51 PMActually I was looking for baby photos of famous Chinese actresses I knew of such as Zhang Ziyi,Gong Li and Maggie Cheung but came up zippo.I must confess I wouldn't have known this couple myself but the article I got it from said they were famous actors and that their daughter was born in Beijing on 30th December 2008.As that was recent I thought others may have recognised them.Further hint...the mother played the role of pig monster in a hit tv sitcom.Sorry if they're not that well known.Hard to guage these things from outside China.

June 26, 2009 at 11:45 PM百米跑。。is an interesting word.Breakdown would have it as 100 meter run...but it seems it doesn't specifically mean 100m run but merely "to run".Yet 跑 on it's own also means run.So what is the difference?
Ah,hangon,just seen the English idiomatic which does give it as 100m run.[Can it imply a short run of no specific distance as well as 100m specifically].Ok,so supplementary question.Does 百米跑 mean sprint,or is it just implied,or is there a separate word for sprint?
Ah,now here's another interesting word:跟腱 for Achilles heel.The same 跟 which we know from other lessons means with or to follow,but also heel [funny how in English we also use heel for both the hind part of our feet and also usually with dogs to follow us] and 腱 for tendon.It also seems that Chinese does transliterate Achilles [a couple of ways 阿奇里斯 or 阿喀琉斯 ...wonder which is more usual?] but reserves this for the Greek hero of the Iliad and not to the heel tendon he gave his name to.Fair enough,separate cultures.

Sorry,catching up on things I meant to reply to.No,of course your username doesn't offend me.I come from Brisbane.I hope it doesn't offend you if I say it's been a long time since I've followed Rugby League.Apart from huge events like the Olympics,or watching an extreme sport/something new or different,I'd rather do something sporting than watch it myself.All comes down to time.Of course ,if you're into playing a particular sport then it's always great to see how the pro's do it from time to time.

我有一个问题。第一时候我看看：
“双脚分开 ”， 我觉得意思是。。the act of separating your feet...involving movement.However,I see it means to start with your feet already apart.Aside from the context that it didn't mention starting with ones feet together,how else could I have distinguished between the two?
I love the supplementary vocab,esp 以柔克刚 an essential concept in Tai Chi and related to yin/yang.
I'm interested in the characters 丹田 another important concept.I'm wondering how the individual characters relate to the overall meaning of the word.Bit hard to find the literal connection here.Any ideas?

hmm.There's no doubt his dancing was amazing and when his thriller video clip came out with it's moonwalking,etc it was cutting edge.Perhaps I can see a connection in the footwork to some extent.
I love all the names given to the different movements in tai chi like in this lesson 揽雀尾

"One in five people had accidentally sent a text meant for a lover to someone else and women are more likely to find out about a partner's affair by text"
..we're not sounding too bright or too honest if the article is to be believed.
