October 28, 2009 at 11:52 AMAh,this lesson was just beautiful.As much to learn about romance as there is about language.A perfect blend of sweet Chinese dialogue [the pace was slowed down perfectly...very much in tune with the music and mood] and the lovely voice of 卡伦 卡彭特 [Karen Carpenter]。I could listen to it over and over.Thanks CPod.
I thought this line in the Chinese wikipedia where I got her transliterated name from was a classic comment coming from a Chinese site:
卡伦為了保護她的嗓音，連紅茶都不喝
[Karen in order to protect her voice, even wouldn't drink any black tea]
Such a tragic ending to her life,and it is ironic that Jenny was saying Autumn is a time of sadness.I also can't help but notice the 卡 [to stop or to block...but in further irony it can refer to calories...what's more,if she wouldn't drink tea perhaps she was more of a coffee drinker and instead of 卡 ka3,perhaps they could have used 咖 ka1] character in her name used in transliteration twice,and the irony of that.Combine that with the above Chinese sentence and you could almost have it as 卡喝 卡碰吃.But no disrespect intended to such a wonderful singer who gave such beautiful songs to the world.A tragic loss.There is a bittersweet poignancy to it all.

You are right of course.What about Henry Higgins who would break it down even further and reckon he could identify which street you were from? I wonder if anyone could do that in China.I really don't need there to be street to street variation in a country the size of China.What hope could there be for us?
