So if 亲爱的 has only been used in the last 80-100 years,what was the usual format of a letter prior to that [and was there something used instead of qinaide?] and is that traditional form still used at all? [I see Jenny's example at the top and note the vertical approach and right to left,as discussed.Also in that same pic are the bits in red the seals John referred to? If so,what about wax seals to seal the envelope?] Is it easy for tourists to get a personalised seal made,and if so is it expensive ?
Great lesson btw.Beautiful sound...actress and background,lovely letter,nice explanation on the zai pattern.I could only encourage exploring more of these different approaches to a lesson.

..an example of where Chinese is not as succinct [or is there a way they commonly abbreviate the date?...like just have it as 09年11月10日】 as English but clearer,as the English translation:
(11/10/2009) ...is clearly in American format.It's always clear when you are at the 13th of the month or later,but otherwise you have to know which format the date is being written in.The Chinese date format seems consistent with it's approach to addresses...start with the larger category and move to the more specific.The Aussie dates and addresses are exactly the opposite to the Chinese.

Interesting this measure word 封..in this case a measure word for sealed objects esp letters.Once again I am struck by the similarities in meanings in some homophones.Of course it reminded me of 风 meaning wind but also news.The similarity makes me think of a letter being blown by the wind to deliver news,wherever it haps to fall.Mere coincidence?

..marked wrong? The only difference I can see between this and the answer then given was that in the answer there seemed to be a space between 很 和 多。。。or am I missing something?
