I think the menu stealer had to exit stage left pronto. The chef with the big carving knife had just caught up with him....yikes,let's just hope that some things were left hangin' ...otherwise next weeks news&features may morph into 小太监进宫七 and we may have another surprise guest 马太监 the artist formally known as 马太

gjeo,

From what I could gather 2 ellies, the occasional newbie, reference to the archive, plus an open invitation to suggestions from newbies in the best way to help them [an example was given of the pinyin programme]....so sounds like they're happy to explore whatever ways they can to help newbies including starting new channels.I understand the finite nature of newbie vocab and that in the end it must be like reinventing the wheel.I also understand the concern that some newbies may have of whether they need to complete all the newbie lessons before moving on.I wondered about this myself when I started out [but curiosity got the better of me] and I have seen this same question pop up again and again since. Also for the obsessive types it could prove a barrier to progress if they feel they need to complete all newbie lessons first. But hey,it doesn't worry me personally any which way,and lets see what CPod have to say to your question. It's nice to see an advanced learner showing concern as you are mate. The CPod community is the best. But I agree their efforts for newbies are probably better spent trying to find new ways to help them.Maybe a similar post to shenyajins lesson topic suggestions could be newbie channel suggestions. Jiayou newbies.

strange,my download of this lesson cut out at 5m47s

So UI students are now being called Uppers? hehe

Really looking forward to the dictionary lesson.Under changye's advice I recently bought one.

搬家 ban1jia1 [moving house]...after too many 派对 pai4dui4 [parties] the tennants were evicted...banned from their jia and had to move

Who's this new chap Matthew? It's not Matthew, the artist formery known as .... is it? No hang on,I've got it,it's Matthew, the menu stealer formerly known as...

after all, when you're in that line of work regular alias's are important

Little mnemonic.暗示 to me sounds halfway between "unsure" and "answer",so to get from unsure to answer you need an 暗示.

mjmcmanus,

That looks pretty good to me mate. The only thing I'd say is that there are so many homophones in Chinese and also a single character can have several meanings.Probably the context of being in a restaurant would make it fine, but I'd be more tempted to use the longer form of 面条 just to make it a little clearer. Also, that way if your pronunciation is not spot on you have a better chance of being understood.Another way of asking the same question could be:

ni3men you3bu4you3 mian4tiao2?

..but either is equally good as far as I know.

..oh yeah, not sure if this is right or not,but unless the joint is run by one person only ..who takes your order then runs out the back and cooks it and comes and delivers it to you..I'd tend to use ni3men to acknowledge the rest of the staff...but see what others reckon on this.Good luck with your trip.

Talking of the latest newsletter,I always love the topical sentences there. What about these ones:

"我想女朋友."

"I want to find a girlfriend."

..hehe,do guys actually come out and say things like this?

Also,

"我被 男朋友 了!"
Wǒ běi nánpéngyou shuǎi le!
"I was dumped by my boyfriend!"

..what about:

我被帅男朋友甩了

。。I was dumped by my handsome boyfriend

..hehe,though I like the shuai sound twice【though I'd have the tones around the other way for better effect],I guess he wouldn't be considered so shuai anymore...more of a swine,or, sounding even better in German...a schwein [said with much emphasis and emotion and your best German accent]

Hey,to all singles,a belated 祝你光棍节快乐。加油。

Congratulations Jenny on your prestigous award.加油 indeed.

bodawei,

Are there people who interpret personality traits from Chinese hand writing, as there are in the West?

..good question.I'd be super suprised if there weren't.It seems more Chinese to me than western.

亲爱的 ...then shortly after that he asked me out for dinner.  Hmmmm.

...lol,still laughing about that one mate.hehe

catherinem,

呵呵,对。。当然是你。对不起。我不好意思。第二次,我放大你的照片和看看我猛醒她大半是你。。。毕竟脸是一样,只头发和表情变成了。你不应该感觉不好意思的你的italianPod照片。。。它是很玩儿.你的照片都是非常好。其实,变成你的照片是很有用对Poddies,因为我们就可以认识你的脸更好。多谢。:)

xiaophil,

hey mate, are you saying you can't see my avatar? ...and asking if it's cos your in China?

...well that's news to me.If so ,how long has it been happening for? It's still on my screen so if you can't see it I can only assume it is because you're in China.Maybe I'll have to change it then.hmm, maybe to the Phantom if my avatar disappears..鬼谁会谈

connie,

thanks for that.Never too sure if I've overlooked something simple or if it's an error.
