thanks mate.Yeah,I was under the impression that this was the case,but how many categories are there and where are the lines drawn[sorry,I know you've pointed to what your understanding to the answer to that is...this is more of that self talk...I must have caught it off xiaophil,hehe]? But anyway,it is interesting,but as I've said I don't have the answers..I don't think it can be an easy thing for educators and I've also been under the impression that it is difficult to define those cut off points,and that the implementation is a bit hazy.

I can understand your point of view.To me the line:

要不然，等到结婚以后才发现合不来，那多麻烦啊。

..seemed weak and would ring alarm bells if I were the girl.Call me an old romantic but I would have thought if it was true love then you'd make the pending marriage work without needing a trial.But what I can't agree with is that CPod are promoting anything here.I think they are just delivering real life dialogues.People face these sort of dilemmas all the time and these dialogues where there is conflict show the issues from both points of view ,give us insights into cultural attitudes..or at least open the doors to the topic,and deliver great language.

the second half of the first line of the dialogue:

再晚了就赶不上地铁了

is translated as:

If it gets any later, you'll miss the subway

...before seeing this translation I took it to mean:

if you stay till late again you'll miss the subway [inferring again...he's been in this same situation before].I thought this would also fit in with the subsequent discussion about how it would be much more convenient to live together [in part to avoid these 麻烦 recurring problems] etc.I wonder why 多 wasn't used to give that later than now feel.However,I think I have seen 再 used in this way,and it kinda makes sense too.I'm just not sure how to distinguish between these two interpretations and how to nail the right one.Can someone please explain how I could have distinguished between the two?

。。which I thought was the hardest grammatical structure in the dialogue to understand.If I get the chance I want to transcribe that explanation so I've got it all and for anyone else who may not have caught it all.

I'm interested in knowing a little more about these words that have the x不x pattern [this lesson being stacked with them,starting with 赶不上】.Is there a name specific to this type of word? What is the idea behind this structure?

When I fist listened to the dialogue I thought this new word 同居 was going to be yet another lovely and convenient example of a word made up of characters you know [in this case 同 and erroneously on my part 住] that have been put together in a very logical fashion.Perhaps this is not the best example as its ju first tone vs zhu 4th tone,but I was struck yet again by the similarity in the meaning of something not far off being a homophone.I know there are heaps of homophones in Chinese and some similarities are going to be mere coincidence but at times it seems like more than coincidence and that there must be some ancient common connection.Anyone care to comment and shed some light on this observation? Is there any substance in it or am I off on my own tangent?

hehe,I read about 随便 recently in which a character suggested it was "the only phrase in Chinese you need"

hehe ,I always have very many New Years resolutions,therefore I don't intend to post them here because I'm very scared that when I fail I'll be publically humiliated.What are the consequences of failure?

ok,thanks zhen.When they say in the majority of cases it is to do with money,that tends to suggest it's not money [or the waste of it] 100% of the time,so I'm wondering what these exceptions are then and how to spot them.If there are exceptions,could they have been applied to the 2 example sentences I had been wondering about?
