English can be read without vowels, but there are considerable difficulties.

Maybe I shouldn't ask,but curiosity has gotten the better of me.Were you deliberately trying to be ironic when you spelt "rediculouly"?

thanks for the 12580 number [I bet they get some interesting calls].Whereabouts in Starbucks do these numbers appear?

I saw all these folk burning stuff in the street in Singapore once and wondered what was going on and I think that was one of the suggested explanations proffered at the time, unless Sebire, pinkjeans,or someone else can set me straight.

I thought this could have been one of those lessons that ended in a fun game:spot all the 火 characters and radicals in the dialogue to put out the fire [first to come up with the right number declared 首消防员】

This character 灭 is interesting as it obviously has the fire radical down the bottom but up the top it is merely the character 一 。Not sure how that works here meaning wise unless it's a phonetic but it sure looks right otherwise..it reminds me of someone throwing a fireblanket on the fire.I note this character can also mean "overthrowing" a former regime...[makes me thing of putting out their fire...putting a lid on it]

Thanks John for a great "aha" moment:the 先把火灭了 explanation was superb and it now seems like a cool way to put it;a great Chinese grammar structure that makes sense.I like it. :)
