nah mate,I wasn't thinking you were having a go at me for a sec.I think we're on exactly the same wavelength on this one. It's a recurring issue really. It's nice to get input from fellow learners as depending on their level and the difficulty of the question it can definitely be helpful or at least point in the right direction in the absence of other guidance [ and when one is really in a quandry a little guidance might give an aha moment..or trigger something you have learnt before but forgotten..or at least get you closer to the truth than you were...better than nothing, etc],but there will be many times [if not always] where one wants to know for sure and with confidence. It's hard enough without learning the wrong stuff.Jiayou mate. :)

yeah, you're right of course mate. It's always hard to know whether to throw one's opinion into the ring or not.Of course it's definitely best to get a native speaker or teachers answer but hard to know when they'll have time to give one,and whether one's opinion in the meantime is going to be helpful or not.I remember when there was a lot of talk about how we should be helping newbies more and making them feel more welcome { I know you're not a newbie mate and are at the same level as me] I raised exactly that concern ...that I was willing to help where possible but usually reticent as it's hard to be very confident one is giving the right guidance, even for apparently simple questions. At least you know me well enough to take it with a huge grain of salt and for what its worth without me having to write a caveat each time.Of course likewise I'm always interested to hear your opinion mate.Gotta dash.Catch ya on the rebound . :)

I reckon this comes down to the fact that unlike English where words are separated by spaces in Chinese you have to kind of work out where the spaces between words are...ie which character goes with which.I think in this case if there were spaces it would be 买 好了 。。the mai is on it's own as a word and haole goes together. I know it's boring to hear this again but I think really only context determines how you figure out what goes with what.IHTH. :)

close talker in the sense I was referring to means someone who has invaded your personal space...usually there face is too close to yours for comfort [esp if the relationship is not intimate]

。。and then how to distinguish that from a Seinfeld like "close talker"..也许在中文说“近话者”。。呵呵。。。可能一点奇怪

The best channel for these type of questions is Qing Wen.It is great for looking at grammar particles like ba and le.Go on the lessons tab and then channels tab from there.Good luck :)

99 luftballons is a classic.Your mention of red wine reminds me of Billy Joels "scenes from an Italian Restaurant"

"Just another glam rock power ballad from my teenage years. "

...yeah,the hairstyles and the song gave away the era I thought.
