June 29, 2010 at 3:11 AMthanks for clarifying that Jen. I think you will pardon an Aussies ignorance on this occasion even though it sounds like a huge moment and I know how important baseball is to you guys. I'd be interested how many other Americans recognised it for being that specific historic moment.

June 29, 2010 at 3:08 AMI always enjoy poddie interviews. If the interviewees didn't mind [which I'm guessing that most wouldn't if they're not too shy to be interviewed] then I think it would be great to have a link to their profile page so we knew who was who. I think I know who one of the interviewees is but I'm not sure.

June 29, 2010 at 3:05 AMI think the Chinese got it right way back when they came up with yin/yang. It can be applied to so many things [hehe,I've even seen them claim that yin/yang foretold the digital age....all the 0's and 1's ] ....the notion of having everything in balance. Heck 阳 even refers to the sun with the sun 日 in its character and 阴 seems to mean hiding from the sun/getting in the shade, and has the moon in it's character [I guess implying night time]. So getting yin/yang in balance would result in us getting enough sun for our vitamin d [as well as enough to avoid winter blues] and but not so much we get the aging and carcinogenic effects of the sun. I think it would be good if this yin/yang concept entered mainstream western society a bit more.

June 24, 2010 at 7:38 AM....or of course we could be just so enthusiastically glued to our sets that we have no time to comment.
..but following on from zhen's comment I was thinking how I while I know soccer is not everyone's cup of tea [though you Americans may take more interest now you've had some success ,hey?] ,it's great that you always have these topical lessons so you can get a chance to practice the vocab in the wild while it's being talked about [esp seeing as it is something Chinese are interested in even though there not in the cup...which I find speaks well of their attitude to sport],but also I was thinking how it's great that we now have soccer lessons at virtually every level which may encourage those who have learnt a lesson at their usual level to venture out into the next level ..or even higher ...having some vocab under the belt on that very same topic they may surprise themselves what they can follow at a higher level. So I think this sort of thing once in a while is a good idea.

June 24, 2010 at 4:54 AMFolksy English = no understanding in that situation
..maybe,maybe not...but if so you may learn us something ;)
I have been known to say "howdy" and "y'all" and the such
...that's great. Seems classic to an Aussie like me. Is that [?still] common these days? I have the feeling it's regional and more common in the mid-west [or south ?].
