I dunno mate, but my feeling is that the translation:

Is there a direct flight from Los Angeles to Beijing?

is somewhat idiomatic and not a word for word translation. In that example sentence 直飞 is the bit that refers to "direct flight" and 班机 could still be referring to the plane or the airline. So getting a little closer to the literal it could have been translated as:

Is there from LA direct flight to Beijing plane[/airline]

..in other words

do any airlines fly direct from LA to Beijing?

I hope you get a more authoritative answer. Good luck.

that 代 is interesting...obviously it's "on behalf of"

..so it's:

literally:

please on behalf of me towards old friend Cassie ask good [send my regards]

or idiomatically:

please could you say hi to my old friend Cassie for me
