just curious...is there now some algorithym that always puts the latest lesson on top in the comments for a while? Just seems this lesson keeps popping to the top. I think it's actually not a bad idea, but I hadn't noticed it before.

danshi is a stronger but[...it's like BUT] than buguo or keshi [the latter I tend to think of as "however"]. que is a bit different in it's grammatical usage but there is already a QW on that.

"Cat got your tongue? "

hehe, well this is a lesson on awkward silence and I do so like to try and reinforce the current lesson. But yeah, Zhen knows me so well and has got it right [thanks Zhen] while I've been offline [and was only ducking in now, about to go again]. I sometimes feel like I'm out on a limb when I can still see the literal as well as seeing how it's come to it's idiomatic meaning. Others sometimes seem to think they're completely divorced, without any relationship or remnant meaning. But maybe that's just an impression. It also did cross my mind on such a joking lesson that sometimes folk can sound serious when they are joking as well. But I in no way meant to give the impression that I was taking a swipe at you. On the contrary my thoughts were these: I have known rodsrandomnumber on these boards for a long time now and thus have the benefit and pleasure of knowing his keen sense of humour. I'm under the impression that you on the other hand are relatively new to the boards and thus may not know him so well. I took it that you likely missed the joke [and weren't joking] and thus were taking his question seriously and you were just trying to give some helpful advice. I think had rodsrandomnumber been serious with the above question your advice was very good [ in general, though I do like to debate how far one goes in dismissing the literal] . I hope to benefit myself from your experience and advice. Cheers mate. :)

13:06.。。哇, I can hear that 然后 now, but boy it was fast !

13:12。。trying to match things up, I guess you're saying that what I'm hearing as nao, is actually...然后...wa, that is hard to catch...really quick and clipped. obviously the n I'm hearing is the end or ran, and the ao is actually the ou of hou. I'd love to know if others can hear all the sounds of ranhou there and how much is kinda extrapolation. i can get there, now knowing it, with a little extrapolation. Certainly ranhou makes sense and I guess was predictable, but na could have fit in as well I think..prediction wise, but it didn't really sound like that.

13:16.。。噢: “动画片里” , “人物”。。现在听得清

14:03 “是要谨慎”.。。听得清

14:15 “修辞”。。听得清。。到现在我没听过。。。谢谢这个生词

I love the way this lesson builds upon last weeks newbie lesson. Did you spot it? For those who want to see if they've mastered last weeks lesson, I'll blacken out my following comment.

Dilu says in the discussion that A asks the time again a couple of hours later. That must have been at 9 o'clock. So there must have been a coupla hours abstract busyness getting ready for the party at that point...at which point perhaps it still wasn't too late to go. But then B doesn't answer till 10 o'clock....clearly an awkward silence lasting one hour. So it was subtle in this lesson because the awkward silence was edited out and was only referred to...testing us to see if we're picking up these cultural points. Now the question remains..why the awkward silence in this situation? Trouble reading the time? the clock/death thing? didn't wanna go to the party?
