guolan,

a couple of things stood out for me as particularly interesting in what you said:

"As a kindergarten teacher....Obviously, I'd never use corporal punishment with anyone else's child"

I was thinking how you must have been regularly confronted with behavioural problems in your kindy kids and if you would never use corporal punishment with them, you must have had other management strategies. So I can't help but wonder why you wouldn't stick with them. Did you feel they were ineffective? I'm wondering why you would change tack with your own? [I'm also curious to know if you'll feel differently when you do have kids of your own, but only time will tell ]

haha, thanks bill. I've got a feeling I've struck that before. Sometimes when I'm not sure which term is used more regularly I put them both separately into a google images search to get a quick idea. I wouldn't recommend doing that this time wiith yours, hehe.

agree that "the rod" is an effective form of discipline. Also agree that when some threw out the rod, they gave up on effective discipline. Very much agree on the importance of discipline and the need to teach children, but disagree that "the rod" is the most appropriate means. It's important to learn other methods.

oh sorry mate. I was on a computer that didn't have flash at the time so I couldn't check that it got the whole scene which I've just checked and it didn't unfortunately. I had also been looking for something non youtube, but alas I've only been able to find this clip:

well worth the watch because the best bit's were yet to come.

"calculus (dental) in Wikipedia"

...hey RJ, you just stumbled across that when you were looking up calculus [maths] for the maths discussion in the other thread, right?
