...haha, I have coped with it,hehe. Hey, actually you could have stuck with your whole ambiguity thing..it was sufficiently ambiguous that though I realised you'd switched to football, I didn't realise you hadn't picked up on the cricket reference...I just thought you don't feel bound to cricket to give an analogy....thought you'd just keep in in the sporting realm.

great info. Thanks tingyun..so my presumptions were wrong. I guess this is the prosody that Simonpetersson used to talk about. I guess I've been taking more of a monkey see monkey do approach to that, but in this case used my analytical head instead. I don't recall CPod talking about it. I think it would be a good QW...not something to worry newbies with, but maybe something that should be addressed at higher levels. Or maybe it could be tacked on to the pronunciation series...not sure if it quite fits there. Anyhow, thanks again mate. :)

I love the way these dialogues are always packed with good cultural lessons and examples also. I love that you can be so frank and direct in China. Can't wait to get to China and be in such a situation like the crowded ditie. Now I know it's ok to go round sniffing folk, interrogate them as to their personal hygiene and banish them if it's not up to snuff.

...why the diar at the end? I thought diar might soften it a bit or make it sound not far at least...but she was giving a direct order and I thought by the sounds of things she wanted him more than a little bit away..get the heck out of here

tal, not everyone knows how to hit the right reply button. I'd be willing to bet theherbdoctor was actually responding to tgif's comment. unless someone actually clicks on the reply button right below someone's comment, any comments in this thread will say " in reply to tal" as you were the one who started the thread. I know it can be confusing for all, but as you've not been around for a longtime till recently, you wouldn't be aware of this [and many others aren't either]
