July 16, 2012 at 12:11 PMWhen I hit the vocab list and saw words like zenme, I thought, shenme?...zheme jiandan de ci zai zhege jibie. Then at 11:08 John mentions when at the Ellie level. ...made me wonder if this was originally meant to be an Ellie...though I think the length is typical for Intermediate and Dilu is following the pattern for Ellie of speaking in Chinese. Anyhow, the upshot is, for those wanting to bridge the gap between Ellie and Intermediate this would be a great one, esp dialogue wise anyhow, and John and Dilu do a superb job of explaining the shi de pattern with lots of examples.

July 16, 2012 at 8:37 AMhey that's a great expression tal, 学无止境, hadn't struck that before. Jeez, you're on a roll cracking out some pearlers. Maybe we should all take a break once in a while and come back in a blaze of glory, hehe. Great pickup before, though don't think tingyun has anything to worry about...this is a great exchange and is language learning at it's finest, what it all should be about, and we're all learning from it. Anyhow, I hadn't struck this 学无止境 before, but I'm thinking about how I would say it...in one go I guess, but if there was a slight pause, even if only mentally, it would be between 学 and 无止境...I mean I'd never say 学无 止境 or 学无止 境

July 16, 2012 at 6:29 AMbtw, I meant to say above that I must confess myself that when I play beach cricket [the only variety I ever partake in] I've never let one go through to the keeper ...I've always had more of a have a go ya mug approach and had a crack at everything, trying to slog it to blazes even if I had to chase after some ridiculously wide ball that was likely to bounce crazy in the uneven sand, needless to say I'm not the greatest cricketer, but I sure do enjoy myself, hehe:)
Hey looks like all the journey to the west spots are taken bar one so will you join us on our quest and accept the role of Sandy Grainders?
