Huatuo: Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that my family uses the word 油菜 for 上海青菜. I mentioned to my wife that I am corrected every single time I use the word 油菜 . She told me that besides amongst her family, that she used to order 油菜 from restaurants in Tianjin and receive what is elsewhere called 上海青菜. Could it be Tianjin-specific? I did a google image search for 油菜, and I see both pictures of "Shanghai bok choy" and "canola".

Anyway, this lesson was great. I'm looking forward to one on fruit. Why are cucumbers "yellow melon"? "Green" definitely comes to mind before "yellow" when I think of cucumbers. How universal are the names presented in today's lesson? I just happened to have an argument discussion today at lunch regarding the name of the vegetable I was eating, which my family calls 油菜, but it seems like everyone else calls 青菜, 上海青菜, or 上海青.
