September 7, 2008 at 8:30 PMI'd be really interested in hearing how you guys at CPod are going to explain this. It looks like you're going out of your way to distribute content that you're simultaneously charging us for. And for everyone's information, the "sign in" restriction there is akin to locking your door by taping a sign to it that says "this door is locked"

September 6, 2008 at 3:46 AMyup, thanks. (that definitely clashes very strongly with the American mindset)

September 6, 2008 at 3:09 AMI'm a bit confused. Jenny said that Chinese people still consider ABCs to be Chinese, but the word "Chinese" on its own is a little ambiguous. In what sense is that meant (nationality, ancestry, ethnicity?), I didn't really understand what Jenny meant by "belong[ing] to the Chinese root".

September 5, 2008 at 8:58 PMFlyboeing, in response to: "I noticed that most of the comments here are about how cool the video is but not about how quickly and accurately the video taught them new terms. "
I made a comment along those lines, but my meaning was that not only did this accurately and quickly teach me new terms, it has taught me in a way such that I actually remember the specific meaning of these words. I find the purely audio approach to be lacking when it comes to learning the language for batches of related items. For such language, I tend to associate its meaning to its category, e.g. 红 = color 黄 = color 黑= color, as opposed to its specific meaning, 红 = red 黄 = yellow 黑= black. I've had this problem with foods, clothing, modes of transportation, etc.
With these videos I find myself associating the language with its specific meaning.

September 4, 2008 at 5:46 PMHi Henning,
Perhaps the Praxis Pass in its present form is useful, for example, if in addition to you studying Chinese, your wife wants to study another language?

I can't wait to try practicing this while running on the treadmill. When exercising, I find it hard to concentrate on pure audio, and it's too bumpy to look at a piece of paper.
Here are some suggestions:
- Food.
- Occupations.
John, I agree that for more sophisticated language teaching this wouldn't be appropriate, but you guys have just convinced me that for memorizing lists of vocabulary (like different types of cars), this is so effective!
About the "bread car" my wife told me that it's because it looks like a loaf of bread.

August 26, 2008 at 1:53 PMHi pdmpdm,
I think that the tone of each of my messages was ambiguous. I didn't feel like you were accusing me of anything. In the second message, I was just trying to clarify my intentions.
