hi everyone,

Sorry, Jenny wrote it backwards.  It should have been:

I've eaten more salt than you have rice.

我吃过的盐比你吃过的米还多。
Wǒ chī guo de yán bǐ nǐ chī guo de mǐ hái duō.

Meaning, the elderly one has had such a long life that the amount of salt (though eaten in such small volumes) they have eaten is more than the amount of rice a younger person has eaten in their life so far.

hi user8877,

盐上加盐  (Yán shàng jiā yán) - yes they both should have been second tone.

hi sjcortes,

A shop that sells alcohol would be referred to as:

卖酒的商店 Mài jiǔ de shāngdiàn

Rather than 酒店 (jiǔdiàn)

mikenotinjubei,

Or, even simpler, you could say:  家里没人 (Jiālǐ méi rén)

hi xinjiapo2703,

It is correct to say both  我不饿。Wǒ bù è. and 我不口渴。Wǒ bù kǒukě.

我没有口渴 Wǒ méiyǒu kǒukě is only used in a very special context, and not commonly used.

hi mattahmet,

周 zhōu and 星期 (xīngqī) are generally interchangeable in most circumstances, but there is no: 星期末 (Xīngqī mò).  You can say 上周 (shàngzhōu) for last week.
