Men like women. Period. If you have a group of expats in China where most women are Chinese, this is what will happen. Hence the myth. I do happen to think many Chinese women are attractive but I know many western men who do not. Maybe its the Chinese girls who like western men? There may be some validity to the "different" theory but it should work both ways.

In the states, clowns are "supposed" to be funny, it just doesnt strike everyone that way. We all have deep dark influences tucked away in the closets of our minds that affect how we see things. Personally, I think the Chinese hit the nail on the head with "little ugly". Clowns are grotesque attempts to be funny by looking "funny". I guess it doesnt help that most of them are predictable and lack originality. Someone mentioned Bozo. And I had just managed to forget. I will probably hear from the clown union now. They do have "clown colleges" here. Imagine that.

I have always hated clowns. Never got it. Why adults always seemed to think children would like clowns always baffled me. Is the term clown used in general Chinese conversation as in: "he is a real clown" ?

I really wish I could have experienced China in the 80's. Traveling to China today is sureal enough, I can only imagine what it would have been like back then. I can remember my family doctor traveling to China on vacation in the early eighties and it made the front page of our newspaper.

Wow, I have to agree with Henning. There are two types of people in the world. Those that love Cpod and stories such as these, and those that cant imagine why anyone would want to learn Chinese. I still find that many think I am crazy for wanting to do so.

Does "ban" also mean this type of board as in board member? If so, this makes sense, but I was thinking it just means the old respected guy with the serious expression. (blank face)
