Could someone in the know give a list of some Shanghainese dishes that are particularly healthy, perhaps something that would not fall into the category of 点心? Thank you.

Could you please post the characters of John's Chinese name?

If you have improved the expansion exercises, perhaps you should allow basic subscribers a trial as well. If the supplementary material is markedly better than before, some people may switch up.

Goodness. I just came on here to ask a mundane question and it looks like there’s been a firestorm.

I had always assumed that Amber decided to move to New York because she wanted to move to New York, and then picked up a job at another Chinese podcast because that is where her experience lay. A completely logical, natural transition. Amber has always seemed like a very straightforward, friendly person; the idea that she would sneak off to start her own podcast to satisfy her own selfish ambitions seems totally off the map. I didn’t work with her, but listening to her podcast, her personality seemed to come through more than with most hosts, and that personality seemed playful and genuine.

Also, I have to agree with paulinurus that the charisma of a host and the interplay between hosts is crucial for a podcast’s appeal. I have avoided subscribing to certain other podcasts, even though I really wanted to learn the information they might contain, because the hosts were annoying. As for the Chinesepod team behind the scene, it is clear from the quality of your podcasts that you have a great supporting cast.

Finally, my mundane question: what is the song used for the intro/extro to Dear Amber? It’s been driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

I completely thought the seagull sound was because they were at the bay.

I just downloaded the "new" PDF, but it's the same as the old PDF (no pictures, no "Gong Bao Ji Ding" characters). Why?

This is wonderful, thank you. The PDF is also great.

“In reasonable societies....”
Excellent. Here's to hoping reasonableness prevails.

Thank you for this new show, Pete. If you're going to make it longer, I would vote for more time on clarifying the language, rather than more cultural history.

I would also really love to hear the poems read by someone with professional Mandarin voice training.
