Could the native Chinese speakers perhaps explain why Chinese people say such things as [snip] "Your Chinese is very good" - when it obviously isn't.

I'm a native English speaker, but I do this all the time with non-native English speakers.  Not as flattery or anything, but partially in recognition that English is a very difficult language for non-native speakers to learn and partially in an attempt to encourage them to practice more.  Because the only way to get good at anything, especially a foreign language, is to practice.

How about "一神论派普救派" for Unitarian Universalism?

I use a similar wall calendar analogy to Dale for 上 and 下.  My mental calendar is one long sheet, with January 1 at the top and December 31 at the bottom.  Therefore,"上个礼拜" is the week above the one where we are now, and "下个礼拜" is the week below.

Of course, this analogy also applies to "上个月" and "下个月."

Are you sure?  Ken starts out saying that it's a Low Intermediate lesson, and the lesson ends with them talking in Mandarin, which isn't usual for any of the Elementary lessons I've listened to so far.

In fact in the comments above, in reference to the discussion about their Mandarin conversation, Jenny says,  Intermediate shows aren't 'speed racing Chinese'. Perhaps content should drive it more than anything else. I actually speak at the same pace as I do with native Chinese speakers, which seems to me to be an odd thing to say in the conversation section of an Elementary lesson.

Is this misfiled?  I found it under "Elementary."

Is there an online Chinese book store?

My icon to create links is grayed out, so you'll have to cut-and-paste.

First, try www.yesasia.com and if you can't find what you want there, try www.amazon.cn.

I'd love to see a book club, too.

Also, do they make audiobooks in Mandarin?
