The whole frame of reference, the whole map of reality is completely different. I am really looking forward to being able to immerse myself completely into this new and fascinating world.

I really hope all lesson scripts faitfully reflect Chinese contemporary (or historic) society. It would be pitty to present unrealistic scenarios when there is immensly rich and diverse culture to choose situations from.
Yeah, the case of 班主任 sounds fine provided the teacher is new, not the students, as 班主任 would need some time and closeness to get to know these details himself.

It sounds like being from rural areas is liekend to being crude.
This is not the first time I have an impression that the a sort of derogatory attitude toward people living or coming from rural areas is felt in the podcasts. Is this attitude still so deeply ingrained in the culture of city-dwellers?

July 15, 2012 at 8:56 AMIs in China common to directly ask your students about their personal life -boyfriends and girlfriends, or workplace? Isn't it easy for the girl to deflect the question "Where do you work?" with "I am in entertainment business".
About Fathers' Day - why would talking about it be awkaward in presence of someone who has recently lost her/his father? It could be a nice opportunity to pay respects to him (or all passed away fathers)...
And who would this person be who has all this info about newly arrived students?

February 6, 2015 at 7:51 PMI really enjoy the high quality new pod-casts and the fresh crew's take on the lessons. As for the differences between Mandarin spoken on Taiwan and Mainland, Fi and Constance take really good care to sound much more "standard" than what one would hear on streets of Taipei. The day when a Beijing-err will tell me he does not understand me only because I sound like a Taiwanese will be the happiest day of my life.
