As for your quote from Descartes, I'm sure there is an official translation that perhaps Constance may provide us with. I'll give it a crack but it won't be accurate>> 我思想，於是我存在. Descartes of course wrote extensively on consciousness/awareness 意識. 意識到，沒意識到 aware of, unaware of. 潛意識 subconscious。自我意識 self awareness.

October 20, 2015 at 7:34 AM星期 is more commonly spoken on the Mainland, whereas 禮拜 is spoken in Taiwan。 週, apart from 週末 which is spoken on both sides of the Strait， is used primarily in written text, for eg newspaper articles.
下週、上週 is also spoken， but not as common as 下星期、上個禮拜。 Interestingly the measure word 個 in conjunction with both 下、上 used with 禮拜 is more common than with 星期

You know this isn't how it really is in practice, right?
That's how I'd translate it anyway. Translation is never a precise undertaking, since language isn't a precise method of conveying meaning. Perhaps one day science or evolution will provide humanity with a better means to do so.
言有盡而意無窮。
