Hi heroius
It's possible that the word "星期" (star cycle?) was invented based on the concept "七曜" (qi1yao4) used in ancient China. The traditional "seven day system" based on 七曜 is used in modern Korea and Japan, but not in China.
七曜/star/planets ...Japanese(Korean)...English

礼拜:chapel,明显的与宗教传播有关,礼拜天 就是the day we have chapel

yes you're right ,的确,现代中国历法的“星期”包含着“七曜”的因素,anyway 我认为一周七天的计日法的源头应该是 西方宗教 上的,而在将这种外来文化引进的时候结合了本土文化。
这也可以说是a match point of deferent cultures~异曲同工之妙
