this site "tá falado", it is great... I've met a handful of americans who already knew spanish and it has always been tiresome to explain to them the differences between spanish and portuguese!
If i only got it sooner, it would have saved me a lot of trouble!
About the "confessions of love" comentary.
I actually speak portuguese, you know. Some years ago, when i heard she saying "mi é dodo na bo" i knew what each word in the sentence meant. But languages differ in the ways they use to express the same idea. So, in spanish one would say "te quiero", not meaning "i want you", but rather "i love you". Also the african crioulo "mi é dodo na bo" means rather "i love you" than "i'm crazy about you".

Hi Dave, Orkelm, I can tell you the problem with Quicktime, it's Quicktime itself.. Gosh, in all the years of working with Computers Quicktime has been the worst thorn in my side. Mpeg (mpg) is better (in my opinion).
NE way, the site is great!!! I'm loving the "Pushing American" section. Thanks Orkelm!!

Thanks John, btw, I do like Sinosplice for the description of j, q, x, zhi, chi, shi, etc. I'm still trying to get those right.

Thanks Orkelm; I got it fixed. For some reason the videos just take an extremely long time to load up. They are still great though!

I've received a few email requests asking if we have the same video materials in other languages. Besides Chinese I also have similar video interviews in Portuguese, Spanish, German, and Japanese. Easiest would be to go to my homepage.

Dave, send me a personal email and I'll pass the info on to Eric (my tech support guru). He might be able to identify what's going on.

No doubt, even though I'm not from Texas originally (I was born in Calgary), just living here gives me license to practice self promotion. In this case the videos are cool, so that's why I sent them on.

It's about time we had a "shameless self-promoter" and a quality one at that ! Thanks!

January 10, 2010 at 04:33 PMI've been going over those clips for some time. They fill a gap in that they contain improvised speech (with repetitions, unfinished sentences, plenty of uh, eh etc.). Many non-standard accents are represented. What about setting up a group about those interviews?
