Chinesepod mugs etc.

January 19, 2008 at 12:48 AM posted in General DiscussionThe Chinesepod cafepress shop is still selling only two kinds of t-shirts, one kind of thong and one kind of mug.
Even more important: Gone are the days when such precious pieces of earthenware were handed out as prizes for promoting oneself.
But maybe I am wrong and you can purchase these and other exciting stuff when taking the guided factory tour at Chinesepod HQ.

lordstanley: What kinda help is a t-shirt when drinking coffee? Is it meant to absorb the scalding liquid?
How about things like these?

Never got my mug for signing up for an annual subscription a year ago. So have been forced to drink straight from the coffee pot the past year and my lips are getting scalded! Will by renewing my annual subscription this weekend, maybe better luck this time.

Or is CPod trying to dump the existing lot of t-shirts? You can't really compare the free t-shirt with the free podcast DVD.

I agree with Urbandweller way up towards the top of this thread....add some hanzi to the merchandise.
The free baseball shirt is okay, but it'd be a lot nicer if it had some low-opacity characters on it. Characters are cool man ;)

So, now there is new merchandise, but only for people subscribing for a whole year. No more saturday shows with things for grabs for answering silly questions ... Maybe, Dear Amber can step in?

February 20, 2008 at 12:13 AMjamestheron, THANK YOU for finally getting me to that episode. I probably heard that Saturday Show before but missed this famous quote. You are the first one to actually point me to it, and the exact time to boot! Looks like you guys got all your embedding questions answered, no? Oh, my mistake in my first attempt to do the logo was that I tried to put a link around the image, such as: <a href="blahblah/blah.jpg"><img src="blahblah/blah..jpg"></a> Yet that was too long so when I posted it, it became <a href="blahblah/ <br /> blah.jpg" ><img src="blahblah/ <br /> blah..jpg"></a> which just totally screwed up the link or the image or whatever. So, guess you have to keep those lines short. Oh, and if you want to write ABOUT these tags as examples like we do, you use < for < (lt = less than) and > for > (gt = greather than), ex: <img src="blah.jpg"> will show your readers: <img src="blah.jpg">

Joachim -- I got neither the mug nor the thong on my last visit, but I do have a vintage CPod mug from when I first paid for a year's subscription. I'll see if I can snap a photo of that soon.

I got it now. Thanks again Brent. Three men from Guizhou. Food was just right spicy. I had "beef on fire" - and they lit it. Very good.

RJ, it looks like you coded it correctly, but the link you inputed (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24000909@N08/2277020157/) is the actual flickr page with the photo on it.
To find the exact URL where the photo is located, right-click on the photo from the above page, then click "Copy Image Location". Paste that URL into the code...it should be http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2071/2277020157_09f8faa7b2.jpg?v=0
Let's see if it works here...

RJ & Xiaohu, just posted this on another thread...a few html tips:
Adding a URL Link
<a href="http://www.yourURL.com" target="_blank">NameYourURL</a>
Where it says http://www.yourURL.com, type in your URL (web page).
Where it says NameYourURL, you can put any name in here and you will see that name instead of the URL. This is good if you have a really long URL, or just want to name it.
Adding a Photo
<img src="http://www.yourURL.com/yourPhoto.jpg"></img>
Where it says http://www.yourURL.com/yourPhoto.jpg, type in the URL where the photo is located. Keep in mind that you must upload your photo to an online server, either your own website or something like Flickr.
Formatting Text
Bold : <strong>type the text you want bolded here</strong>
Italics : <em>type the text you want italicized here</em>

Rich,
The chipmunk quote came from a Saturday Show about a year ago.
The audio is here and Jenny said it at about 6:39: http://cdn1.libsyn.com/hanyuwang1/chinesepod509_I38_20070224.mp3

@Henning,
so I should call myself 海宁.. ;-)
it would be nice to have mugs with your own favorite quote (from the lessons, the banter or some famous Jenny Zhu quote)

I love the old Chinesepod logo.
I also miss the old design of the site from when I first joined before moving to version 3.

Jenny,
did Frank Fradella get a mug when visiting Cpod in the last few days? Or a thong???
RJBerki:
Those "curtains" of Henning's look like a scroll painting to me.
Maybe, Cpod could do some calligraphy scrolls as giveaways. That way, users could own an original artwork by Jenny Zhu or John Pasden. :)

WHERE IS THIS "VISUALIZE MY CHIPMUNK" episode? I asked that TWICE on some other thread on best Jenny Zhu quotes and no one would ask me? Was it even a lesson, or on Saturday Show? I don't even know the context it was said in. *sniff* *sniff*

Seeing someone drinking from a mug with only 'visualize my chipmunk' written on would definitely be like a secret handshake of the Cpod community... :-)

The old logo was the red cursive 中, framed in a red pod with the characters "pod". Close to those ones:

There is no curtain on that picture.

dang it... how does one imbed an image? I did regular <img src="..."> tag... grr. It seems it put a <br /> right in the middle of the img tag even though I didn't wrap it.
Trying again (but you can click on the above link if this doesn't succeed):

Yes, V3 killed the cool CPod logo!!! I never saw a reason why. The new logo needs to be at least wearing a shirt or somethin' with "中文" written on it or something. I would very much like old merchandise too.
I have an old logo somewhere on my other computer. will upload it if I remember, but I am sure it is still out there somewhere. Oh wait, here is a screen shot of the good ol' days of V2 and de old logo:
As for saying on the mugs, com'on people, it has to be Jenny quotes! Nothing else says ChinesePod as what she adds to the shows in one-liners. :)

What was the old logo? (and dont tell your wife I made a crack about your curtains)

I considered signing up for a year at one crack to get the DVD, but Lordstanley said he never got his mug in a simialr bait and switch deal, so I decided not to. I think
"Cpod really owes him a mug now, dont you think? New york Times publicity and looking good too. Maybe the C in cpod stands for "cheap". Send Mike his mug.

My avatar (which I will hopefully eventually replace some day) still proudly wears an *old* CPod T-Shirt that I won in the 2nd Saturday Show.
I will never forget that show. Jenny explained why I am most probably a *Dutch girl* - based on my Chinese name 海宁. Mpmf.
But the T-Shirt was worth it, given the collector's value of the nowadays rare V1/V2 style merchandise.

I think ya'll should start a thread asking poddies to come up with creative sayings/marketing slogans for merchandise. Knowing this group, you'll get some brilliant ideas.

April 05, 2008 at 06:37 PMMaybe, someone could do the same thing in Shanghai: Visit every Starbucks outlet there - going to other baristas showing their location etc. Doing it in Chinese would also be appreciated. (Please include captions!)
