Why do you always say your Mandarin is not up to snuff?  On several occassions you've called your Chinese a "poor man's Mandarin".

I think your Chinese is getting pretty good, don't focus on your shortcomings, just focus on your strengths.  You've made vast improvement since I first joined this site.

I see you striving to improve and communicate more and more in Chinese, and I can 100% understand what you've written in Chinese.

对不起我得不同意你的看法。

The thing is, in a language learning environment, students should only strive for the perfect. That's why in upper intermediate podcasts, John, as great as he sounds, （on first listen several of my Chinese friends thought he was Chinese at first）, uses limited Chinese in podcasts, and is assuming the role of facilitator, not model speaker.

In advanced and media podcasts there is no non-Chinese present, because we should all be striving for perfect. If our model of a Chinese speaker had a thick Japanese or Korean accent, then we would all be learning the wrong thing to do. We would all learn to speak with a terrible accent.

One day years ago when I first started learning Chinese, my Mandarin professor 带我去一家重庆菜饭馆吃饭, and there was a white girl there who could speak fairly fluent Mandarin, but she learned her Mandarin in Canton so she had a terrible accent. Although one could understand her, it hurt to hear her speak, and there were still things she said you had to strain to understand or just plain had to ask her to repeat herself. All the Chinese people there who knew me said her Chinese was much more fluent than mine, but my pronunciation was pretty close to a native speaker's, so if I just stuck to it, I would surpass her.

That's when my teacher told me, "learning a foreign language is difficult enough, why not just put in a little extra effort to make it perfect? Why not strive for the perfect?"

Imagine if Jenny or Connie had a thick Korean accent, we'd spend all this time and effort in vain, just to speak badly accented Mandarin.

Imagine living in China, trying to communicate with the locals in fluent, unintelligible Mandarin,and those we converse with having to strain to understand us, looking for the first possible way out of the conversation. I shutter at the thought.

The difference between 接 and 取 when relating to people is, for example with 接 you could go to the airport, or someone's work to 接 (meet) them.  This would indicate that you're going to give them a ride in your car, or accompany them in a taxi or something to that effect.  In Chinese you don't say you're going to pick someone up, you say you're going to meet them, it's the same basic meaning as our "pick someone up".

EG: 晚上我不能参加晚会因为我得到机场去接我老公。

wǎn shàng wǒ bù néng cān jiā wǎn huì yīn wèi wǒ děi dào jī chǎng qù jiē wǒ lǎo gōng.

I can't go the the party tonight because I have to go to the airport to pick up my husband.

晚上我得到干洗店去取衣服

wǎn shàng wǒ děi dào gān xǐ diàn qù qǔ yī fú.

Tonight I have to go to the dry cleaners to pick up my clothes.

哈哈，中文播客的侏罗纪公园啊！我刚在 Wiki 上查询发现这个《雷龙》 是属于蜥脚类动物的一个分支。约翰说《雷龙》不存在，但据网络上的资讯所说《迷惑龙》和《雷龙》是一个意思，而且连字典都说《雷龙》就是 Apatosaurus 的以前的称呼，况且又有另外一个称呼 《虚幻龙》。我发现《迷惑龙》就是最令人迷惑的恐龙啊！
