trevlu: If you're not a fan of romantic comedies, maybe just wait and guess at next weeks Movie Madness.

sballa: Yeah there are quite a few, and actually since there is no rating system in China, a lot of movies are fit for the whole family. The one that pops to mind first is a GREAT film by director Zhang Yi Mou, and was the VERY FIRST FILM that established Zhang Zi Yi (the girl from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), which is actually a really sweet and tremendously moving film about how a young couple fall in love in a small mountain village, and after the husband dies, how all that loved him and were touched by his existence pay homage to his life. "The Road Home" 我的父亲母亲 Another one that is a cool action movie with awesome special effects that's overflowing with excitement: "The Ledgend of Zu" 蜀山传 This was the movie that put the now hugely famous Cecilia Cheung 张柏芝 into the stratosphere! It also stars Sammo Hung 洪金宝, which is a story about how legendary immortals who live atop Mt. Omei 峨眉山 in Sichuan do battle with a great evil that is threatening to take over the world! This is one AWESOME MOVIE! Another one of my very favorite Chinese films is one starring Jet Li, The Tai Chi Master 太极张三丰 (known in America as "Twin Warriors") This movie has everything a kid would like, plenty of physical comedy, sight gags, AWESOME martial arts scenes, and fast moving simple story about good and evil. Two monks growing up in a Buddhist monastery long to be the greatest Shaolin Kung Fu warriors. Both warriors have great skill, however one has greater skill but a rebellious nature, the other a gentle nature. When a competition between the young monks goes awry, the two are expelled from the monastery and forced to make their way in the world. Soon the two come to a crossroad and must choose which path they will take, one chooses greed and power, the other to live a Robin Hood like existence robbing from the rich and giving back to the poor, this begins the journey of the two young monks to the ultimate showdown of skill against skill! Another movie great for all ages was by the creator of Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen Chow 周星驰 which I personally feel is a much better and funnier film. Shaolin Soccer 少林足球: A washed up has been, wannabe Soccer star is given a second chance at the sport through the extraordinary god-like talents of a gifted protege (Shephen Chow). The man organizes a team of rag-tag misfits who each, despite appearances posses great individual power, but do they have the power to take it all in the race for the World Championship Soccer title? I would say these four are severl of my very favorite Chinese movies. Each should be available online, in your local video retailer or even better, if you have a Chinese community nearby, you can get the versions from China which will include Chinese subtitles in both Simplified and Traditional script....HUGE BONUS if you are interested in learning to read!

By the way, even if I hadn't known already that the Finnish version of Robocop was cut down it's still too easy to find out the answer on the internet, Search Google: 80's cop movies that were cut down for finnish version #1 answer...ROBOCOP!!! Maybe for future editions of Movie Madness give clues that are slightly less searchable!

Jiejie: Yeah, the odds aren't good to win since it's not the first person who e-mails with the correct answer, it's that the name of the winner is drawn randomly. According to Amber they get a lot of correct submissions every week, so I'm not putting that much stock in winning. It's still fun to play though. Besides I paid for my memberhip all at once so $240 works out to $20 per month, so 1 free month would be worth $20.00. I spend more than that eating Sushi 1 time. It would still be cool to win though!

vann0000: Watching Chinese movies is a FANTASTIC way to help learn the language, you can hear it fluently, put up subtitles both Chinese and English to help you. Which is why MOVIE MADNESS is such a great idea!

Bazza: Yeah the sound of him walking was a big clue, also the Finnish version having been cut down was another big clue as soon as he said that I immediately thought ROBOCOP! When I heard the dialogue I knew it was the scene where Robocop was trying to arrest Dick Jones but couldn't move against him because it was against his programming, then the Old Man fires him and Robocop shoots him out the window. It's funny that when you know it, it seems too easy...but then like last weeks movie I listened to it more than 20 times and finally gave up wishing they could have given more clues! Kind of funny!
