May 28, 2010 at 11:28 AMI did check with her last night, and her response was, "WHAT? Who told you that 浴室 meant bathhouse?!"
Anyway, no point arguing about it, and I don't need to see your extensive collection of not at all dodgy photos of bathhouses ;-)

May 28, 2010 at 10:33 AMYou know what, this was posted last September, but it's genius! I've finally worked out how to say ü !
Thanks Chris, if you're still around!

May 28, 2010 at 8:59 AMShe grew up in a perfectly normal city flat in Guangzhou. I think we've probably run up against a city/country word difference. Kind of interesting.

May 27, 2010 at 7:35 PMAha. Sorry Bodawei, but having thanked you, I now have to disagree with you!
I checked with she who must be obeyed (ok, I went to berate her for letting me have the wrong word on my door for months), and she said that 浴室 is a completely normal word to refer to your own bathroom. 洗手间 is a more formal way - for example, you might use it to ask someone if you can visit a bathroom in their office (like in this dialogue).

May 27, 2010 at 2:58 PMAh, ok, thanks Bodawei. A while ago I made little signs in chinese for a bunch of stuff and stuck them all over my house to help me learn the names of common things. Amusingly I've had 浴室 on my bathroom door for the last month or so.
Thankfully, haven't had any customers :-p
