Hmn. It it because it's a sentence with two verbs? Both verbs need the 了 to indicate they are both in the past?

Also to note: quite a few of the multiple choice on this lesson have two possible answers, due to the multiple foodstuffs presented. E.g. the answer could be 小吃 or 肉, but one is classed as wrong...

In the expansion sentence "我忘了买肉了" - wǒ wàng le mǎi ròu le -  Why are there two 了s?

I think everyone else has competently answered, heh. But in my opinion, with regards to chinese grammar, I think the basics are really easy to grasp, but the more you delve deep, the more complex it gets. Basics easy. Fluency fiendishly hard. Wasn't it Pete, of Poem's with Pete fame, who was legendarily good at Chinese, but still confessed to sometimes making mistakes with 了?
