親愛的ChinesePod﹗

近日發覺同學們對某生詞表的英文翻譯

有些議論紛紛

直到現在才知道翻譯真的不是一件容易的事

既然翻譯意思要務求標準正確 原來使用英文

的字眼也要講究。

ChinesePod, 請問日後你們會不會使用母語

教師參加審定翻譯呢﹖

如有冒犯 請多多包涵

祝 各人工作愉快﹗更加努力﹗

嗨Dunderklumpen您好!

Thank you for telling us about 高本汉

I have two more examples of Chinese transliterated names which have both sounds and meanings of the original words:

宜家=IKEA ( You must be very familiar with this one Ha Ha )

宜【yí】 suitable; fitting.

家【jiā】 family; household; home.

赛百味=SUBWAY ( Fast food chain )

赛【sài】 match; game; competition; contest.

百【bǎi】 hundred; numerous; all kinds of.

味【wèi】 taste; flavour; smell.

 What do you think?

陈博士.

嗨 Dunderklumpen您好!

We were saying people from the East are relatively polite as we would use "您"

As far as getting a Chinese name, it is quite common to use your own English name,or in you case your Swede name, and "transform"into 汉语(Chinese ) according to the sound of the name and sometimes by the meaning.

Some popular examples: 托马斯 as Thomas; 彼得as Peter; 玛丽 as Mary

So the Chinese name still has the sound of the original name.

Most "created" Chinese names will appear very Chinese e.g.

彭定康 is Chris Patten , 彭 is a genuine Chinese surname and it contains the sound of Patten 。定康has good meanings:

定【dìng】 calm; stable; settled; established; <formal> surely; certainly; definitely.

康【kāng】 well-being; health.

Is this fascinating?

PS Chris Patten was the last governor of HongKong
