September 22, 2008 at 10:25 PMOh i liked this lesson alot!! I plan on memorizing this one immediatly. I remember hearing some of those words on my trip. I have a couple requests from the cpod community and this may require separate posts because of the amount of info...
Does anybody know the translations for...
1. all the major airlines?
2. types & models of typical commercial aircraft used Boeing, McDonall Douglas, Airbus etc??
I'm geussing that there would be a lot of transliterations.
Thanks.

September 21, 2008 at 11:01 PMThanks for another great segment Amber! This one definitely struck a particular nerve with me. One of the reasons i'm learning Chinese is to be able to architecture work over there someday. I will be looking for a job over there in 4 years after i graduate with my B. Arch. It was great to hear from someone who acutally has experience there and how the business works. I remember checking out jobsite conditions and being amazed by the bamboo scaffolding. They can build that stuff pretty high! It was also interesting to see guys working and welding 10 stories up in the middle of the night! I figured that safety wasnt as big of an issue there. Here in the states, (escpecially in California) safety is the MOST important thing on the jobsite. I cannot even enter any construction site without a hard hat. I have gotten scolded by superintendents for trying to enter without one. So now i just keep one in the car. But i guess i wont have to worry about that while working in Shanghai.
I hope that one day i will get the chance to shape China's architectural future but also find creative ways to preserve its past...
@ calkins, thanks for plugging my group man!
@ greggs, i would love to hear more about your experiences working as an Architect overseas. If you get a chance drop me a PM.
@sebastian, 加油!!
