Posted on: Lao Wang's Office 1: A New Manager
June 23, 2008 at 2:07 PMBy coincidence, I have been studying another 王经理 lesson, which portrays him as a real 小 人 ( my english translation would not printable)
Im referring to "Complaining About the Boss"
http://chinesepod.com/lessons/complaining-about-the-boss/discussion
Its a great theme that most people can relate to, so I hope CPOD can make a dramatic series out of it.

June 12, 2008 at 1:09 PMHi
在 纽 约 这 里, 我 跟 太 太 都 喜 欢 看 中 国 电 视 节 目 "电 视 舞 蹈 大 赛" 表 演 者 很 有 技 巧. 我 也 喜 欢 听 他 们 说 标 准 普 通 话
The TV show is translated in English as "Dance With Me". It comes over my cable provider's chinese package. The performers mostly do chinese traditional dance, then they have to do one impromptu dance, and strangely they have to answer one trivia question. I hope someday CPOD can do a lesson on traditional dance. My wife does Chinese traditional dance, and all the performers are so dedicated.

June 7, 2008 at 12:37 AMNice lesson, useful vocab.
I was wondering. Do people in China really know what
橄 榄 球 is ? I was in Hainan Island last January, and I couldnt find out the American football playoff scores, and if I asked anyone I just got a blank stare,
it was very difficult for me

April 13, 2008 at 2:46 PMNice lesson, Im always interested in lessons that teach me something. I wonder how many people got the Twilight Zone reference from the introduction, I figured only Americans over the age of 35 remember that classic TV show.

March 16, 2008 at 3:01 PM很 酷 ! 对 我 来 说 词 汇 有 点 难 下 星 期 我 在 学 .... This lesson also gets me thinking about how you may understand a language, but not necessarily understand the free flowing banter that people engage in. Quite frankly, what does Einstein have to do with "a good man is relative" ?!

March 8, 2008 at 2:36 PMNow you have me feeling very nostalgic Some of the original dialogues were painfully slow, I couldnt stand to listen to them. There was a good lesson from January 2006 about China North vs. South but somehow it disappeared. My chinese friends were impressed when I would mimic the lesson as if I was making regular conversation! 南方人吃很多米饭和海鲜。他 们说广东话而不是普通话 For those who find the development of the internet amazing (like me), check out http://web.archive.org/collections/pioneers.html Tom

July 3, 2008 at 1:20 PMI never thought about this, but listening to the dialogue, I wonder why speaking of a standardized hanyu test, why refer to it as a western-style acronym such as "HSK"? How often are acronyms used in chinese?
I would think something like 汉平考 would be more appropriate to the nature of the language, and just as many sylables
