The entrance makes it unique. In a typical (oldish) chinese 小区 there will be a number of buildings. Each building will have a number of entrances (say 10 ish). Each entrance will usually give access to three appartments on each floor. On the first floor 101, 102 and 103; on the second floor 201, 202 and 203 etc) so you need the entrance number to make it unique.

In Beijing, people seem to use 楼 (building), 门 (door) 号/室. My address is 8号楼 11门 302号。 It's usally just written as 8-11-302.

Ex girlfriend - 前女友

Not sure about rubbing salt into the wound but I have come across 雪上加霜 which seems to convey this meaning. You can say 真是雪上加霜 or 更是雪上加霜。

Hi joeborn,

The 原来 is difficult to understand because it doesn't translate well into English. But it commonly occurs with 难怪 when you state the reason. I guess you could think of it as a pattern along the lines of [难怪 + something is this way, 原来 + reason]. I guess then you could translate it as "the reason is..." though we wouldn't usually say this in English.

鲜牛奶 has become much easier to get your hands on in Beijing over the past few years. It seems to come in three varieties:

脱脂牛奶 - skimmed milk (not sure if it's totally fat free as I don't go near the stuff)

低脂牛奶 - low fat (semi-skimmed???)

全脂牛奶 - full fat (to make you into a real 男子汉)

Hi Chris,

Probably best just to think of 中毒 as meaning to BE poisoned (when used as a verb), just like 受伤 means to BE injured. In 受伤, obviously the 受 is making the passive. In 中毒 it's the 中 (4th tone) which can have the meaning of "be hit by" or "suffer from". Another example is 中暑 (which featured in the recent Houyi and the ten suns lesson) which means suffer from/get heatstroke. So you can just say 我中暑了。

Yeah, at first glance I thought I caught sight of a rollock in the photo (being handled by the woman in the red boat).
