January 19, 2011 at 10:46 PMLydia,
The problem is this is not even a 中国文化的 issue, Take a look here:
http://www.personality-and-aptitude-career-tests.com/color-personality-tests.html
Red color excites…The color personality tests associate it with enthusiasm, strength and competitiveness . . . etc. (How these people repackage Western detritus for Chinese consumption is BRILLIANT.)
I recognize this might be a kind of madness sweeping the nation, but anyone familiar with Briggs-Myers MBTI, categorization knows this is akin to astrology. I agree there are teachable vocabulary here, but seriously, do we need to listen to an infomercial as part of our educational process?

This is very interesting also. QQ asks users what is their blood type. Apposed to Westerners who have significant Rh differences, Rh gene sequences of Chinese Han nationality are different from those of Caucasian and more Kell (one of the other 25+ nonABO blood group) differences. What is even more bizarre (considering the outdated antiJapanese sentiment) is the origin of this unscientific belief: In 1927, Takeji Furukawa's paper "The Study of Temperament Through Blood Type" caused the Japanese to embrace the theory of matching personality traits with one's blood type.

January 19, 2011 at 3:50 AM我也觉得这媒体课并不这么好。背景(杂)音乐不但吵,话题也缺乏科学根据。说实话,节目上的讲师到底在说什么?-胡说八道! 请Cpod以后选上的媒体节目跟有条理性。 至少把背景杂音去掉。谢谢。

December 5, 2010 at 6:26 PMI think the intonation on 色相 is 4th, not 1st.[sèxiàng]
and 猥琐 [wéisuǒ] might need the same correction too.
In my experience, 猥琐 is very similar in meaning and usage with 下流 . . . . Question: The word "wretched" is listed as the definition. In English, wretched has a very stylistic and literary usage. Is the Chinese usage similar, or can you elaborate?

December 2, 2010 at 4:31 AMWhile I agree with posters saying her Mandarin is standard, there is a whining quality (which is testimony to voice acting) which is a little grinding. (My wife winced in pain when hearing her tone.) If you haven't noticed, the male voice also has a quality which is far from Northern.

November 30, 2010 at 3:33 AMDown the elevator to the parking lot is a river front. How about ask some working people in the floors below CP? To the left and right are some little shops, especially down the street to the right. There is even an interesting private eye hospital not too far away. How about it CP?

November 20, 2010 at 5:43 PMThat ranking should not be taken at face value. There are many variables which the well-off are not inconvenience by - by that I mean if you are reading this forum, it probably doesn't apply to you.
I encourage you to think it about it this way. Presume you have some serious undiagnosed symptoms and you have the means to travel anywhere in the world and see any set of specialists. Where would you go? Me? Mass General, Johns Hopkins, Mayo.

January 21, 2011 at 12:31 AMWe wuz robbed! Yeah, they took advantage of you because they could. If it is any consolation to you, it is the growing pains of a poor and envious people. When China was uniformly poor, people behaved much better. Now I always joke, when Deng said, "往前走" what the people heard was "往钱走"
As an ethnic Chinese who speaks well enough not to be recognized as a foreigner, it p'sses me off when mainland Chinese treat me more rudely than if I were to speak English and identify myself as an American. People in Taiwan used to behave this way, but if that is any guide to the future, behavior should improve with people's confidence and living standards - I hope.
