January 18, 2014 at 1:18 AMThank you toianw. I had thought 男 was a noun (man), but it's only an adjective (male). So it must accompany either 人 or 的。 Got it!

January 18, 2014 at 1:11 AMGot it. Then 青年 is a noun (youth, young person); it was translated as an adjective on the pop-up translation. So the phrase is "old single guy". Thanks! (English is my second language). :)

January 7, 2014 at 7:44 AMWhen C asks towards end of dialog, "那个男的跟你一起?" Why is there a "的“ there, please?

January 7, 2014 at 4:24 AMI've been venturing into the Upper Intermediate Level for some time now, and have been successful at least following the dialogs. However, in this one I found a couple of ideas that presented some challenges. For example, the line "大龄单身青年真命苦" seems to be so loosely translated that it's hard for me to make sense of it. On the translation it reads "I'm not getting any younger and I'm still single." I don't find the negative element (not getting) on the Chinese line. If I translate the line word for word, it reads "old single young really tough". It's the "old single young" that I have trouble understanding. Can you help?

December 3, 2013 at 7:14 PMIn the dialog, there are two ways to say "enjoy" (xiangshoudao, xinshangdao). What's the difference?

March 12, 2014 at 9:11 PMHi all,
I don't get the meaning of "以" in the phrase: 近一半店面以“费时"... The hovering translation reads "to"...but the translation of the whole dialog line does not say "to".
Can you help?
