January 31, 2008 at 2:40 PMI found this one a good laugh too, and lots of things I didn't know before (like leading role is zhu3 jue1 and not zhu3 jiao3). I laughed the most when: * Jenny describe 脱掉 as take it off and toss it around. vivid. * John reminded us to not get 胸肌 and 鸡胸 mixed up. (hey babe, look at my chicken breasts....err...douh!) (but not as bad if you were to get milkshake's characters, 奶昔, switched around, which I heard someone did when asking for one at KFC) * And of course when John asked Jenny who wrote the dialog, then Jenny, after saying she wrote it, who told her to wrote it (Woo John... trying to get some tips on what works/doesn't work??)

January 31, 2008 at 2:03 PMcan one say 超碗，like we say 超人，or must one say the 级 in 超级碗？ Well, I plan to watch the 超级碗 here in 爱丁堡 (Edinburgh) even though I am also 无所谓 about it... I side with the writter on watching for the 广告 but I have to wonder what commericals we will get on this side of the pond. I believe my living residence will be throwing a party from 11pm - 3am... there go my Chinese politics and economics classes I take on Monday!!

January 30, 2008 at 6:19 PMoubaoluo1, since no one gave your a response to studying here yet, just wanted to say, from what I know, ChinesePod is viewable in traditional characters (with Firefox and an add-on for it), and the PDFs for the dialogs have traditional version. Having read some of the whole tonal things about 一 and 不, just found it funny as I sit each day watching my classmates study Chinese from ground up (have to challege myself by sitting there writing everything the teacher says in Chinese, while still participating, feeling like I have to dumb down my 6 years of Chinese experience...). Anyway, not much more than month into their studying, they learned the word for doctor, 医生 (yi1 sheng1). Right away the French guy in the class (he loves asking observant questions) asked, WAIT! How do I know that isn't one-something, like 一生 (unknown to him, meaning "all one's life"). That is a good question, as that is also yi1sheng1, as the 一 is not changed to forth, nor is it in 第一声 (which, actually, means "first tone|). Just all about context, as you wouldn't be using those things in place of "doctor".

February 12, 2008 at 10:12 AMI keep a diary too, but found I ended up writing too much (4 pages a day or so) that I would keep putting it off for months on end, until now that I just write a paragraph for each day, probably better that way.
