May 5, 2013 at 12:19 AM了 is not about past tense but completion of an action, unlike English's "-ed", so we don't care if it was completed but when it happened "昨天"， so 了 is not needed. I would normally ask: 昨天谁给我你打个电话？

April 25, 2013 at 6:04 AM正 here is always a bit hard to translate into English. It has the meaning "just" or "right when" or can mean "presently". I could have said 正在 as well but shortened it.
通着 means to be connected on the telephone, which implies talking on the telephone. Many ways to say this though. Can say:
我正给她打电话时, .... (给)
But means more "when I was giving her a call...", also 打电话 could mean dialing, not when ON the telephone. 通着 has more the meaning "When we were ON the telephone [talking], ...". Just of odd to say 我们在电话中谈着的时候.... Don't think that seems natural to a native speak, but I"m not one, so will have to get a 2nd opinion. :)
