Great lesson.  我姐姐上周生了第二个孩子,所以我又做舅舅,哈哈. 上周上课的时候,因为我说这件事情,老师让我们都用汉语说生孩子的事情,真希望我们早一点有这节课,呵呵.

Amber, I didn't get to see you when I was in Shanghai last month (but got to sit at your desk and use your computer) and now you're not there, and I'm very late on saying good-bye.  I have lots of your shows to catch up on, so I hope they will still be accessible for a while. :)  We'll miss you!

yes, 水瓶, wasn't paying attention.... sorry for that.

and looks like biqi in the post before me had the intelligent-typing-program problem too...should be 网络...unless "trap" was the intent (yet in mine, 网络 come before 网罗)

glad you all liked the captions, pictures, etc....I miss the audience we all have at ChinesePod... and being creative with this crazy culture differences we can share.

I still like my Ken "deplane deplane" line best though, and now really want to hear him say it....

I just keep accidently losing my sports 水平 because I keep forgetting to empty out the 水.  That was in China, in the summer, when it was hot on my travels to 厦门 and 南京, but fortunately those 瓶子 are not too expensive at your Chinese supermarket (but now, from my 妈妈, I heard made with the wrong kind of plastic, go fig...don't use bottles with the plastic #s 3, 6, or 7...or if no #...which they were...stop terrorizing me China!), but then when I went back to America, and I was sick with a very sore throat and cough, I had FINALLY managed to get an 的水平 through security, which is ok,  but then after filling it up in the terminal, I had it in my pocket when boarding the plane and they saw it, and took it away from me. *哭哭*  I tried to fight that it is okay to bring 水 I had filled up past security, but no, they wouldn't let me.... oh, but they did let me drink as much as I could before giving them the 瓶子...they must love watching travellers chug water.
(how do you say chug in Chinese?)

Rich - the guy who's hardly around any more

Click on the pic for more pictures of inside Praxis, this one taken on the deck outside: John looking at planes, thinking how to terrorize onehttp://picasaweb.google.com/richmahn/2008120410_Shanghai

(I think John's looking at planes, thinking how he could terrorize them...can't believe I dared to fly back to 天津 that very same day...)

Ken, in his Tatoo/Irish accent: deplane!  deplane!

My first and only time dealing with counterfit money in China was my first time alone in Shanghai in 2003.  I'll be honest that what happened was that while waking down Nanjing Lu, I actually talked with two of those girls who walk around trying to befriend you and get you to go buy coffee and snacks, which we did... I just didn't know how much it would be.  They ordered a bunch of snacks.  So anyway, time comes to pay and I realized I had been had, but give a 100 RMB bill anyway.  Time passes, I worry what takes so long to get the change.  They finally come back and tell me the bill is counterfit.  All my bills came from the bank, as I was a student at the time, only withdrawing money from Bank of China ATM.  Confused, I took back the bill and gave them another 100 which they were satisfied with.

I really bet that somehow this shop switch the 100 bill on me, maybe they had been given a counterfit 100 before and bank wouldn't take it so, hey, give it to the foreigner.  So a) don't talk to the girls walking around on Nanjing lu (I've since learned just ignore them, they go away, but give them an icy glare if you'd like) and b) becareful going into small coffee shops and giving 100's.

Oh, and the rest of the story is that I went with a Shanghai friend to the bank to see what I could do about the counterfit 100...after giving it to them, they acted like I was the criminal, taking down all my information, making me sign papers, etc.  Grrr... just throw it away or frame it if you find one... (unless it somehow helps the cops, but who knows)
