May 23, 2010 at 2:58 AMSo Connie you seem to pronounce more "r"s than "n"s when you speak and now I learn you are NOT Shanghai ren so are you a BJ or Hebei or Shandong girl? This might explain the "r" sounds you prefer at the ends or words like wan(r) and dian(r) and the meiyou gan qing you have for Shanghai.

April 27, 2010 at 12:53 PMHi Liliana,
Tellement content de t'aider.
Look at the phonetics below. There is a "z" sound in this word. Also notice that there is an /ig/ not an ˈeg, ˈāg
Main Entry: 1ex·am·ple
Pronunciation: ig-ˈzam-pəl
Main Entry: 1egg
Pronunciation: ˈeg, ˈāg
It is my pleasure to offer this small service to such a delightful and helpful Chinese teacher. Thanks for the "tutoyer" of friendship en francais and thanks for all of the great Qing Wens!
Oh and the Gary Coleman reference is priceless although he would have said it like this:
"Whatchu talkin' bout Willis?"

April 27, 2010 at 4:22 AMAlors est-ce que c'est hors de question d'aider cette jeune femme un peu?
I also think Liliana rocks, but every time she gives me an "egg sample" I get hungry.

April 27, 2010 at 3:58 AMThanks Catherine. Upper Int. hurts my brain too much. Maybe I'll start doing them by summer, but they're a stretch for me now. Thanks for the quick reply and all of your hard work. Oh! Has someone taught Liliana how to pronounce the word "example" yet?

April 27, 2010 at 3:33 AMSo I am not complaining about the "Shanghai brand of Chinese" classes. Anything you guys wanna put up is appreciated, but are these efforts coming at the demise of "intermediate" lessons?

April 10, 2010 at 3:15 AMA great lesson and a record number of "egg samples"! Maybe we can have a QingWen where we get spicy recipes to go along with these egg samples. Liliana, I am teasing and I think you are a doll, but can you get John to teach you the "z" sound in certain English words?

May 24, 2010 at 8:58 AMZhejiang is where most of my coolest and most interesting students here in Beijing come from. Why do you favor the "r" over the "n"? I thought that was a BJ and northern thing. I could be wrong. I am often wrong...
