January 24, 2014 at 3:05 PMTal, off topic, but are you concerned about Windows dropping support for Win XP? Will your office upgrade to a more recent version of Windows? I'm not sure if I have seen a computer in China that did not have XP, and I think I understand why, but I wonder if China is going to be exposed to security vulnerabilities as a result if Microsoft stops putting out security fixes for XP.
On topic, I don't seem to be having the same problems with Firefox. I don't use Chrome very often and deleted it and Safari from my notebook for lack of disk space.

January 24, 2014 at 12:51 AMI think the equivalent of the more generalized dǎqiú ( 打球）would be tīqiú ( 踢球). Although I can't think offhand of any ball sport that exclusively uses the feet other than soccer, so its probably automatically less ambiguous. 踢足球 is of course, also correct as the more literal translation of "to play football / soccer".

January 23, 2014 at 11:12 PMI also learned fěnhóngsè (粉红色）as the translation of "pink" so your question got me curious. I asked one native speaker and got a reaction similar to yours. But in doing some dictionary lookup and usage lookup on Jukuu (jukuu.com) it seems that fěnsè （粉色）is often translated as "light pink."

And I had a typo in my question; I meant to ask about 靠 by saying "does it not mean that she depends on it...?" The mouseover popup definition for 靠 in the expansion section is "to depend upon." Also, how does the meaning of the sentence change if 靠 is deleted, assuming that the sentence would still be grammatically valid?

It seems the "backend" work has been offered as the reason why troubleshooting does not happen for a long time now. That being the case, maybe it would be a good idea to share with users how the pending changes will affect the service.

The alternative parsing, 数学家, would give you "mathematician" which one does not have to be to be a math tutor. Also, if you stranded 教 by itself it would have to be a verb, and the grammatical structure calls for a noun as the object of the verb 请 (hire). Does that make sense?
