I'm glad Qing Wen is as much fun to listen to as it is to record! Amber and Connie are delightful.
I don't really know about the psychology behind switching languages. I do know that it is more of a mental workout to talk to someone who speaks no English at all, as opposed to someone like my girlfriend whose English is excellent. There is a real tendency to take mental shortcuts and just use the word (English or Chinese) that comes up first. It's OK between the two of us, but it seems poncey or confusing to others :-/ And, pinkjeans, I still dream in English.

I guess the main thing is just to make sure you are getting all your nutrients and proteins. It looks like you can read in Chinese-- there are a lot of online recipes where you are basically only limited by the ingredients in your supermarket and your own time! Remember, there are dozens of kinds of tofu, and dozens of ways to prepare it! And you can fool around with 花椒 (hua1jiao1 Sichuan peppercorns) , 姜 jiang1 ginger, etc. for variety.

You're right, 多久duo1jiu3 means "how long?"
The 多+形容词 construction can be used with many other adjectives:
多高 duo1gao1 how tall
多大 duo1da4 how old , 等等
Thanks for noticing. I will make the change on Monday.

I promise you, it's not me ;-) They don't have me record things in Chinese!

我同意你的观念。盲目得追求“乌托邦”特别危险。全世界历史上几亿人为了各种各样的意识形态付出了最昂贵的代价,自己的生命?
也许poddies 知道我特别喜欢摇滚音乐。The Beatles 的一首歌表达我对revolution 的一些想法...
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out....

Jiaojie explains that:
房间 refers to individual rooms, whereas 屋子 can be both a whole house or a room. 屋子 is not too common.
室 is used with modifiers in front:
教室-classroom
卧室-bedroom
301室- Room 301
It can also be used in the classic formulation familiar to people looking for an apartment, e.g.
2室1厅1卫 Two bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom.

One extremely powerful tool is TRADOS, a software program that "remembers" the previous translations of you (and the people in your team, if you share a database.) It takes a lot of the tedium out of translating documents, especially those with a lot of similarities like contracts, deeds, etc. It lets the translator focus more on the fun, ever-changing stuff.
But it is not a translation software per se. It's only as smart as the people using it.

Hi light487
地道 means "authentic, the Real McCoy." Interestingly, I have heard Taiwanese people say 道地.
