Hi urbandweller

A 市场 is a "market." This is indeed the kind you saw in the video.

A supermarket, by the way, is 超市 chao1shi4. 超 is a handy prefix or substitute for "很" or “非常.”

Hi excuter

Thanks for the background info! I had no idea about the Spanish idea that jade was good for the kidneys.

The Jadeite used in the Cabbage 翡翠白菜 in the Imperial Palace Museum came from Burma.

Hi hugorestall,

多谢!我拼音打错了,现在改好了。

而且对于高级课程的内容,我会跟CPod team 商量一下。我也建议你在 user forum 提这个意见。搞不好,很多人同意!

Hi miantiao

甭客气! “精”字用途也特别多,很值得学习。感兴趣者可以多了解一下: 精字的来源

Hi miantiao

我算不上伟大呀, 哈哈。room divider 或 partition 就是隔墙 ge2qiang2.

隔 这个字超好用,比如隔壁,隔天,隔夜饭,等。都跟separation 有关。

Hi miantiao

你也看过“翡翠白菜”吧,它可谓是故宫的特征,原料和作品搭配很好,特别精致。

Hi jamestw07

Within the week, a new show that advanced students will enjoy will be coming out.

My goal is to make it broadly accessible, but I am confident that there will be enough challenging, interesting stuff to satisfy even our most elite sinophones.

But for now, I will 卖关子. Stay tuned!

Hi calicartel and bingge

销售 can be both a noun and a verb. It is not necessary to say 他是销售员 (and in fact sounds a bit unnatural) since you can convey that meaning with 他是销售  or 他是做销售的.

Hi zhandawei

Thanks for asking about a fascinating character. Professor Lu (Jiaojie) explains:

The 亡 part of the character is from 灭亡-- if you want to win, you must first think of being destroyed. The 口 mouth is because you must communicate if you want to win. The 月 is from 日积月累- victory is a long-term, incremental process. The cowry shell 贝 represents capital, which is necessary for victory. Finally, the 凡 shows that to win you must have 平常心, composure. This shows the wisdom of the ancients in devising characters.

Many Chinese remember the character with the mnemonic: 亡口月贝凡.

Hi ultimato,

Great! We aim to please. I've never bought any jade myself. But I was "suitably" impressed by the jade burial clothes on display in the Nanjing Museum. In ancient times, leaders were buried in jade because it supposedly preserved their bodies.
