August 31, 2009 at 4:55 AMThere's an expression in Chinese, I cannot exactly remember it...something like " The Dog Catches the Mouse".
Anyone have the saying ?

What other "shang" and "xia" verb / noun combinations can you use this reversal ?
Apart from "shang" and "xia", are there any other examples that use this efficient pattern ?

July 23, 2009 at 3:25 AMIf the game had continued, would the splish-splash sentence be:
扑通三声跳下水
putong san sheng tiao xia shui
and next would be:
扑通四声跳下水
putong si sheng tiao xia shui

July 21, 2009 at 2:49 AMJust a minor correction to the transcript:
The line with "four eyes, eight legs" has two "zhi" measure words in the pinyin. (I think John was drinking when he put the transcript together, maybe).

I believe you can use "le" combined with "mei" in this case, since it relates to something that started in the past and continues today.
So, I think you are right...it is because of the present perfect tense.

September 5, 2009 at 5:04 AMHi Jenny,
Thanks for this very informative show !
I have a friend who just went to Shanghai to teach English. Unfortunately, the Chinese government will not grant him a visa since he is older than 55.
Is there any way around this age restriction ?
Thanks !
