Posted on: Springtime on the River -- 次北固山下
May 22, 2009 at 4:11 AMBased on the geography it seems more likely that he would recieve a message from home via wild goose than send one...
But the poem does evoke the feeling of standing outside on a beatiful early spring day, determined to enjoy the sun inspite of the fact that it is actually colder than you are willing to admit to anyone, especially yourself, listening to the geese going home and thinking of your own.
And that is also the color qing to me, something cool and bright.

May 13, 2009 at 10:35 PMWhile I haven't meditated on the poem long, it seems to me only terribly sad if the "glory days" are concretely set in youth. If we let the time be ambiguous, we also alow the sadness to be transient. It is the long dark tea-time of the soul...

May 26, 2009 at 12:57 AMSo I tried this with a chinese friend today and totally bombed. But he has been in the US for 30 years and knew hua1sheng1, but not hua1sheng1mi3. On the upside, I learned the vocab very well and he said my tones were right. So now I must choose my audience more carefully... I have a feeling I need to look for someone under 10 years old. I will tell this to every chinese person I know until I get a laugh.
