蝴蝶 (hu2dié2): butterfly 蟑螂 (zhang1lang2): coackroach Looks like, with insects, every character has the 部首 虫 to memorize 蝴蝶, I see something like a reckless (flying) disk (as in 蝶)

changye, I am lucky to live in Shanghai and be able to check with locals. 我知道了 means "I new it already before you told me". While 我才知道 means "I now realize what I didn't know before" However, as you will notice in previous CPOD lessons, 我知道了 is often used by Chinese in the sense of 我才知道
