yeah i think quite private, the basin does provide some cover to the rear ;-p

just by looking at the roman style of communal toilet socialisation and comparing in with the squat style communal toilet socialising habits exhibited here, i'd say the roman style was a little less vivid and invasive. i could live with that. i do like the open air style, alfresco上厕所的方式！reminds me of my days as a soldier.

then again if one could master the art of squatting flatfooted thereby cancelling the need to strip from the waist down to prevent soiling one's jeans or footwear, or falling backwards into the abyss..........

作1坊 is a workshop. so i guess 你太作， would translate as you're too much work. i've never heard it myself but am now going to try it on my girlfriend to see what reaction i get. in sichuan one would say 你好烦哦，which i get accused of regularly, follwed by, 对不起宝贝儿，我好爱你，来，抱我一下嘛。

yes, 马桶 i actually the bowl itself. 厕所 and 洗手间 is the room, like restroom.

but that said, it's common speach to say 我要去上厕所。

talking of cummunal toilet habits and a place to socialise , my girlfriend's home in very rural china has a large toilet room( the biggest area of the house) where they also keep the pigs. she would often spend an hour in there with her mother, aunties, grandmothers, and cousins chatting away.

i never need to workout my legs at the gym. hotpot twice a week followed the next morning with a half hour workout doing squats over my 'hole in the ground'.

i always make sure to do number twos at home in my own hole in the ground, because i cant squat flatfooted and need to take everything off below the waist, lest there be an untidy accident, like falling backwards into the hole in the ground.
