April 8, 2009 at 4:52 AMbarbs,
back in the late 90's when in taiwan i used to frequent an underground live music venue behind淡江大学,the toilets were unisex, they had western toilets to cater for the many western students, i popped in there once and found a girl squatting on the toilet and throwing up at the same time, 一石二鸟,哈哈!she was blotto, probly had two beers instead of one.
anyway the above is quite common mate, i cant tell you how many times ive gone for a luxury sitting only to discover footprints on the toilet bowl or seat.

间jian1, is the measure word used for rooms.
however, in many advertisements for realestate the measure word is dropped.

all good things come at a cost, i just about popped a vein in my neck the other morning after hotpot, but i'm a glutton for punishment, and hotpot has become a most enjoyable part of my life. going home for a bit next week, i miss the place already, but will be back in a few months.

'I think they are quite smart, but not smart enough to discern the subtleties of hidden meanings in language'.
chinese philosophy and literature are probably some of the most suggestive prose ever written.
although pchenery's intentions are admirable, the above comment is nevertheless a ridiculous statement that accuses chinese people of lacking intelligence, and furthermore that western literature has a monopoly on creativity.
I would have thought that 鲁迅 was critical of the nationalist government, since they were the government of the time.
