June 29, 2007 at 1:14 PMI haven't been a big fan of Chinesepod in the past, but this lesson was really good. I've always been more interested in talking to people than learning dialogues, and this gives me exactly what I need. Keep this, and movie lessons up, and I might just join up. If there were 3 more interviews from other voice actors in the premium section, I'd sign up immediately :0). If anyone's interested in dialogue only mp3s, I suggest using a wav editing program like Cool Edit Pro and cutting out the parts you don't like.

June 28, 2007 at 11:26 AMA weird thing that happens here is referring to people by their nationality, or ethnic group, when you forget their name. I'm often referred to as ‘那个。。。那个。。。 那个混血儿的‘， sometimes as '帅哥’ (I'm not that 帅， it's just that they've forgotten my name and don't want to let on) or ‘我们外国的朋友‘ or, at work as 老师， even from people who are not students. I found the ‘那个。。。混血儿的 very offensive when I first came here, but I'm used to it. I'm still occasionally introduced as '我们的混血朋友‘ instead of by name! Names aren't used as often as they are in western countries. I'd rarely call anyone by their full Chinese name in any situation... most people have nicknames or shortened names... I'm sure if I saw any of my Chinese friends and called them by their entire names, they'd feel a little uncomfortable. They wouldn't be embarassed, but it would definitely be peculiar. A little like if someone called me by my entire name, full middle and last name. Names aren't as permanent either... my friend's girlfriend responds to 'Prilla', 'Peng', 'Qiqi' 'PiPi', and ‘Toerag', along with her Chinese name.
