from my observation, there is a strong north vs south trend in both, German and Dutch.

One key difference in German is the vowel forming. Whereas southern people tend to form the vowels in the front (supported by the rolling "r" on the tip of the tongue), northern people form the vowels more towards the back. This results in different tones for each vowel making them more difficult to match with the own vowels, thus harder to understand.

One key difference in Dutch is the preference of a soft "g" in the south versus a hard "g" in the north. There the "g" sounds more like a swiss "ch".

I guess, due to those displacements, words and phrases are shortened differently which results in the long run as a different dialect.

Hi User34332,

on radio, music below talkers drives me mad, as they use upbeat rhythms at a pace that it sounds, the talker is on the run. (similar to the old Dear Amber shows).

For the lessons, I think I've grown accustomed. Amongst other reasons, because the music is decent, has a Chinese feel and David keeps it decently in the background to act more like white noise which turns the dry studio atmosphere into a Chinese learning environment.

Furthermore, it is indeed already like a audio-"branding" to me. "Guang guagua guaaaa - hello this is ..." ... Chinesepod :-D

The sound effects in the dialogues are even more necessary, as the give clues, put you into context, provide a cinematic feel to the scene and make the dialogues worth listening on their own. For me, at least in audio quality, a major differentiator for ChinesePod.

So, maybe Chinesepod does not believe, it is a significant factor for their success, at least I believe so - and I'm more than happy that they don't talk on this meta level during the lessons anymore.

Jason, this didn't answer the burning question of damon and others :)

Baba is not the only one remembering this to be in the pipeline. Would be awesome to have it, although I don't mind using Anki until then.

I saw them and discarded the option of buying them. Left some disappointed sales ladies behind.
