hey prd34, i would like to say that i also don't agree with chemical pesticides as well (esp. harmful ones), but i find this lesson to be very useful, because i can say 我不喜欢杀虫剂 :)

this is a pretty good article i read in school, i felt like after reading it i at least understood one aspect of 差不多。from what i gather most chinese people were "forced" (saying this lightly) to read this article in school。probably where the mc got the idea for 差不多先生 being that the main character in that article's name is 差不多先生。i think the author is also Taiwanese... probably just means something like "nothing special".

i think it's just assumed that you know about sina (sina.cn) which is the chinese site where you can find blogs （博客), and "microblog"s（微薄）like twitter.com.

难道你不知道推特是什么... :)

i'm glad they posted this as a supplementary vocab because it reminds me of the problem of being a foreigner and ordering water. even if you order 一杯水sometimes the 服务员will bring some fancy shmancy water that costs 15块. then you have to explain我只要一杯水or whatever. but they are so crafty, they'll open it for you in the back and serve some to you first so you feel bad to say i just wanted tap water. i wonder if i could say 我本来只想自来水？

能不能说“请来一杯自来水”吗？

sometimes it seems good to be specific. in english it's easy, "i'll have a glass of water", they never try any stunts like bringing out the pelegrino or perrier (though there are some exceptions in some yuppie places).

yeah, i noticed chinese are questioning the value of cold and even hot things recently as well... i've been listening to chinese radio to work on 听力, and i noticed they talk a lot about throat cancer and it's relation to drinking (eating) hot things all the time... totally weird, you don't have that phenomena in america.
