that's probably what it was, thought i don't remember the 产物 part. reminds me of how you would see it in america, sounds like a name like "organic farms" or "foster farms". thanks for that.

I just wanted to thank you guys for creating these Shanghainese lessons, really I've already found them to be useful... in America. Thanks!

"i'm majoring in philosophy" 我主修哲学 and "my major is philosophy" 我的专业是哲学.

this probably has a lot to do with chinese parents paying for the college? also, kids in america move out of their parents house before college, i'd say pretty regularly. i left my parents at the age of 15 and they never once spoke to me about college. finally when i wanted to go to college they said "so, you think you're smart?" i never would ask them to pay for college, some of us americans see that as only something rich people can do, or people with well-off parents could afford.

i am not rich and i eat organic every day. i know a lot of people who are a lot poorer than i am that eat it regularly too. what you said may have been true in the past, but clearly that is changing. i would be careful thinking that genetic engineering is the only way to go as far as getting rid of pesticides... some people seem to forget that vegetables and fruits have been in the human diet for over a million years without help from pesticides or advanced / reduced amounts of fertilizer. i'm sure the companies that are dominating the the produce markets and basically controlling the food supply would be happy to hear that you think that though. controlling pests, though it's not an easy task, but it's totally feasible without pesticides and genetic modification... but when we live in a world where people are too lazy to grow their own food and depend on companies to make it for them, it's not exactly an apparent truth.

a couple things i noticed about this dialog that seemed a bit funny was that organic farm don't have any pollution. i don't think that is true but correct me if i'm wrong. the fields have to be worked for hours with large tractors that burn a lot of fuel. or did she mean there's no pollution that gets onto the vegetables... considering this is china i'd also find that hard to believe.

also, i personally believe that organic foods taste better than non-organic foods, especially ketchup!

i also love this word and try to use it as frequently as i can, but i still find it hard to understand because sometimes it comes of as "flavor" and not texture.

in short i would say it's not reliable... and the thing i would be extremely weary of is large companies that claim to sell organic goods.

reminds me of a conversation i had with a local bee-keeper. he said his honey couldn't technically be considered organic because the bees were gathering nectar from non-organic farms. also, since farms cross pollinate, a lot of produce, plants etc are technically genetically modified, being that a genetically modified farm can still cross pollinate a non-genetically modified farm. it's a pretty big scandal in american farming, if anybody is interested they can read about a company called monsanto.

you're right, there probably is no problem to discuss, even myself, i wouldn't know the meaning of organic if i wasn't interested in it myself. if you read about the history of organic, you'll see why it's so mysterious... it's basically derived from early theory of the elements, which were totally wrong, but not bad considering their tools... but would now basically be considered a psuedo-science.
